Crosse & Blackwell announce new healthier recipe for Character Pasta Shapes.
Research in Irish children has shown that they are eating more fat than is recommended and not getting enough fruit, vegetables or fibre. There are concerns about the amounts of salt children are eating – the National Children’s Food Survey found that salt intake was excessive in young children – 4.6g/day compared to targets of 3g. Recognising the importance of a healthy diet and responding to consumer demands to healthier foods, Crosse & Blackwell, have announced new healthier recipes for their Character Pasta Shapes.
Tinned pasta in tomato sauce has always been recognised as a naturally low-fat, carbohydrate-rich food and a source of vitamin C for children, but parents have had concerns about salt, sugar and food additives. Crosse & Blackwell have reduced the sodium content of their Character Pasta Shapes to 0.2g per tin (213g), controlled the sugar content and increased the tomato content by 20%. Wholewheat pasta is now used as standard, which means that Crosse & Blackwell Character Shapes now contain 40% more fibre & 50% less salt than other brands of tinned pasta on the market. They are naturally low in fat, containing just 0.4g per tin and only a trace of saturated fat. Tomato sauce is rich in vitamin C and lycopene and there are no artificial additives.
Tinned pasta shapes can make a convenient after-school snack for children or can be used as the basis for a quick, convenient meal.
Try:
